Emily Xiao Wang - soprano

Born in China, Emily Xiao Wang completed a Bachelor of Music from Shanghai Normal University in 1992 and a Graduate Diploma in Opera Performance at the Victorian College of the Arts in 2002. Emily received the Mabel Kent Estate Singing Scholarship 2001 and Harold Fisher Opera Scholarship B’nai B’rith 2002.

She has performed with the Shanghai Philharmonic Orchestra, Melbourne City Opera Orchestra, the Melbourne University Orchestra, Royal Melbourne Philharmonic Orchestra and Melbourne Mandolin Orchestra, and in extensive roles such as Nedda in Pagliacci, Gilda in Rigoletto, Pamina in Magic Flute, Zerlina in Don Giovanni, Mimi in La Boheme, Juliet in Romeo and Juliet, and as Servilia in La Clemenza di Tito with VCA Opera Studio (2005).

Emily performed at the City of Stonnington’s Opera in the Park 2004, Mozart Please with Salon Rouge Orchestra (2004), Requiem at Castlemaine State Festival (2005), and staged opera concerts with More Than Opera Company in the Geelong and Benalla Performing Arts Centres (2005), Rigoletto: a staged opera concert at Queenscliff (2005), and “Sparkling Keys” with the National Trust of Australia (2005). She was an Opera Award finalist in the Australia Singing Competition (2005), and a semi-finalist in the German Australian Opera Grant 2006. Her concert held at Raheen has been warmly accepted and broadcast by 3MBS. Most recently, she has performed at Rigg Bequest Series 2007 with National Trust of Australia.

Emily is a member of Opera Australia and Victorian Opera.
