Joshua Geddes

Originally from the Victorian country city of Sale, Joshua grew up in the local brass band playing all the brass instruments before deciding to specialise in Trumpet and French Horn.

Joshua has learnt conducting from the inside out having performed with many leading ensembles such as the Melbourne Youth Orchestra, Melbourne City Opera and the Australian Army Band Melbourne.

He maintains a commitment to community music having extensively performed with groups including Zelman, Stonnington and Bendigo Symphony Orchestras and the Footscray Yarraville City Band which culminated in a performance of Edward Gregson’s Concerto for French Horn and Brass Band.

Joshua studied French Horn at the Victorian College of the Arts graduating in 2006 and at the same time he studied conducting with Dr. David Kram and Dr. Barry Bignall. Since completing his degree he has completed numerous conducting courses and in January 2008 he attended the Varna International Conducting Workshop in Sofia, Bulgaria with Dian Tchobenov of the Sofia Philharmonic.

He has conducted the Blackburn High School VCE choir (whilst a student there in 2001) and has been Musical Director for the Hyde St. Youth Band (2003-2005), City of Glen Eira Band (2004-2007) and ARC’s Musical Theatre production of Cabaret (2007). He has also made guest conducting appearances with the Maffra Municipal Band (2000), Victorian Youth Symphony Orchestra (2007), Bendigo Symphony Orchestra (2008) and has conducted the King Island Concert Band in Tasmania (2007 and returning in 2008).

Joshua presents masterclasses across Victoria in music performance, is currently teaching brass in five schools in the Bendigo region and conducts the Bendigo College Symphony Orchestra.
