Verdi Requiem

Italy's great hero and poet, Alessandro Manzoni, died in 1873. Verdi, who shared with Manzoni a strong desire for the unification of the Italian states, composed his Requiem for performance in Milan on the first anniversary of Manzoni's death. Subsequent performances in Paris, London and Vienna received triumphal acclaim and the work's popularity was assured.

Often described as "Verdi’s greatest opera", it is an expansive yet tightly-knit musical masterpiece, with melodies and rhythms binding together the various movements into a complete and monumental experience.

The Star Chorale, Zelman Symphony Orchestra and Box Hill Chorale, will perform this magnificent work at the Melbourne Town Hall on Sunday 26 July 2015, featuring four Opera Australia Principals. Further details at Star Chorale.
